The Excavation

Subject of the project is the excavation, conservation, study and publication of the Prehistoric Settlement and the Classical Demos of Marathon at Plasi, in Attica, Greece. It is a collective project of the Department of Archaeology and History of Art, of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.


The scientific team for the study and publication of the finds consists of almost all the members of stuff of the Department according to their specialization, as well as researchers and specialists from other universities and research institutions.

 

The excavation commenced in 2014, and takes place in May on a yearly basis. It is part of the undergraduate course "Excavation Techniques, Processing of Archaeological Finds and Museum Studies", followed by 120 students of archaeology, as part of their practice in archaeological field work.
